Happy Tails Fur Nina!

nina2

Nina is having a good first day!  She did very well on the ride home.  When we brought her in she came out of the crate after a minute or so, and started darting around the living room and kitchen, further and further each time, then retreating back to her crate or a corner behind the chair.  She did have an accident on the floor, but then calmed down soon after and spent some time relaxing back in the crate.   Then before I knew it, she was up on the couch with me, getting lots of pets!  She’s also found some bonding time with Ben, snuggling up in the corner with him while he was installing the pet gate.

We really appreciate you letting us borrow your martingale collar – and I can see why you found it so necessary.  This afternoon we took her out, and as soon as we made it down from the deck she bolted – but the collar did its job.  We will have to work more on keeping her calm when going outside.   (Let me know where we can send the collar back to you, we were able to find another pet store this afternoon that had martingale collars in Nina’s size).

Things have settled back down again… Nina had her dinner a few hours ago and now we are hanging out watching the Red Sox, since we know she’s a fan 🙂

Just wanted to give you a quick recap of day 1 – will also write up a “happy tails” story later on.

Thanks for taking such great care of Nina during your time together, and for getting us off to a great start with her.  We already love her a lot and are really enjoying seeing her come out of her shell little by little.

Happy Tails Fur Ellie!

ellie6

I gots no worries! Dese great people tookded me home wif dem and I has it made! Check out wat dey say about sweet lil me!

Hi Arleen,

Ellie is doing well! She was definitely sad when you left :/  Jim said that she kept going to the door and windows looking for you :/. I believe that speaks to what a wonderful caretaker you have been and how much she loves you!  As the day went on she warmed up to us.  We took her on several walks, she played with some new toys and she loves her dog bed, although she’s actually a little too big for it, I’ll have to get the next size up.  It is adorable watching her try to get into it anyway! And she has been joining us to cuddle on the couch and is much less timid around us.  I have to say I think it was good that she got to spend some alone time with Jim (even though I was jealous) because she doesn’t seem afraid of him anymore and even follows him around from room to room.  The only challenges are getting her to do her business outside and sleeping in her crate to start out (we’ll see how that goes tonight…)

All in all we are so very happy and love her so much!  We are sad that we had to take her away from what she knows, but are hopeful that she will grow to love us too and be very happy here!

Attached are some pictures of her first day with us!

Thanks again for everything!

Best,

Sarah

Happy Tails Fur Yogi!

Dis me, da first night in da big house, bol!

Dis me, da first night in da big house, bol!

Yogi here. I is so special my new family haf nice fings to say about me already wif my first night. Read wat dey say bout me below! Paw you later, bol!

Hi
Yogi had a good first evening. Winnie’s nose is a little out of joint but she will adjust. I already see her more relaxed this evening as compared to last evening. Yogi did one more of his markings after you left and understood the tone of my NO and I haven’t seen one since. He took about 1 and 1/2 hours to settle down to sleep last night. Anyway, Yogi got up several times but finally settled down under the covers and then Paul had to wake him up this morning as he slept right through the alarm. He will adjust to our hours soon.
Yogi is much more patient with her than she is with him so it will happen soon. He has adapted to the potty schedule with no problems. Things are working out. One thing though, Yogi is obsessed with food to the point that its funny. (understandable with his background of course). I fed them leftover steak from yesterday while we ate Kentucky fried chicken we picked up after our “family” visit to Petco. I ‘ll bet Yogi has never been there before as Winnie is an old pro. Anyway, Yogi was extremely polite and enjoyed all the smells. He ignored the other dogs as he was busy with his nose in the whatever display he could reach.
He is quite the character. He was sitting with Paul gumming away on a chew stick which he dropped. Paul leaned over and picked it up off the floor and kinda tossed it to him at the end of the couch. He then started picking the chew up in his mouth and dropping it onto Paul’s thigh and then would wait for Paul to toss it back to him. It was our first look at his sense of play.

This is really going to work out just fine. Oh, we did decide to keep the name Yogi as a reminder of how you rescued him and we found him because of what you did for him. Without you, he wouldn’t be alive and we wouldn’t be a family. So though you do thank us, we also thank you.

Happy Tails Fur Maximus & Kiki!

Dis our daddy, Ken

Dis our daddy, Ken

I just wanted to let you guys know that the little ones are doing great. They seem to be all settled in and to think of us as their family/pack. It’s amazing how quickly it happened. Moose & Junebug seem to be dealing with more transition issues than Max & Kiki. Poor things, first we moved and before they were even close to being used to that we brought in two more dogs. But they are adjusting and all are getting along just fine.

We have fallen head-over-heels in love with them and Maxie and I are developing a special bond, kind of like my Moose and me. Maybe it’s a guy thing, lol. But all is good.

Attached is a photo I took this afternoon with their Archie-Daddy.

Best,

Dis wat Mommy say bout me!

I can’t begin to tell you how much I (and we all) love Didi. I often look at her and tears fill my eyes, because she’s the most wonderful, loving girl imaginable. She’s so incredibly protective of me, that it’s both flattering and hilarious — hilarious because she has all of three teeth in her mouth.
She sleeps in bed between my husband and me, just like a little person, her head up by the pillows. Once she knows my husband is awake, she begins her most important job: licking his face thoroughly over and over and over again, until it’s perfectly clean (except it never is, because she would keep on licking endlessly). It’s a frequent occurrence that I come out of the shower and immediately stumble upon this scene.
We recently celebrated her 11th birthday (August 25). She had cancer surgery in May (mast cell, for which she also had surgery in December, a couple of months prior to our adopting her). She’s doing great, despite now missing one toe, and while I hope there isn’t ever another recurrence, should there be she will get the best care.
I can’t imagine a day without her. She’s a treasure.

Happy Tails Fur Pippa!

What a beauty, Pippa is!

What a beauty, Pippa is!

Pippa’s daddy did a background check on her heritage and here’s the exciting discovery that was made in the proud papa’s own words!

Hello I am the proud father of Pippa who we adopted from your rescue early this year. I figured I would email you because we recently did a DNA test on Pippa and we were told she was half Dachshund half Bulldog but the results came back differently. We did our test at the Marion Animal Hospital and the results showed that one of her parents was a mix of wired hair dachshund/ beagle and the other parent was an American Staffshire terrier which explains her size and muscle. I figured this information would be nice to share with you and also maybe the parents of her other siblings. I don’t have the emails of the other adoptees of Diamond, Copper, and Cooper aka Spot but I’m sure they would enjoy to hear this info. I will also send pics in this email to show how big she has gotten because she has grown a lot and she turns 1 on the 13th of this month which is next week so exciting!! Our last visit to the vet she was very healthy she is not over weight and she weighed 24 pounds! We thank you again for your help we love her so much maybe we will find her a friend to adopt in the future thank you again!!
What a perfect doxie-beagle-terrier! :)

Woof!

My new Mom and Dad (and dachshund sister, Dakota) picked me up on July 17. Since then, I’ve had many adventures.

Mom was able to work from home during my first few days so we could bond – although I really love my Dad! When he leaves, I cannot take my eyes off of the door.

I quickly learned that my parents like to have movie night. I sit on one side of the couch and Dakota sits on the other. Mama’s most beloved actors are James Cagney and James Dean. She said my middle name is going to be James because she and Dad welcomed me on James Cagney’s birthday. She also wanted to add “Flay” to my name in honor of her favorite chef. So, my name is now Bobby James Flay Finnegan. Hey, that has a nice ring to it!

Guess what? We camp in a travel trailer on Cape Cod. I like spending time on the deck in the screen house. There are even a few other dachshunds in the park (Bella, Peanut and Pickles, plus my sister) so oftentimes, on walks, we’ll form a doxie clique.  My parents’ neighbors cannot believe what a gentle and quiet dog I am considering I lived in a puppy mill my whole life. Mama says my foster mother, Diane, did a great job of raising me for four months.

My Nana lives very close to my new house and camps on Cape Cod, too. She cuddles me by the campfire, plus she brings me treats. I think Dakota is jealous! Nana does her best to make sure we both get attention. She said she will watch me and Kota when my parents go on trips. She likes to make peanut butter toast! Yum!

I do have a touch of separation anxiety, so Mama bought me a kong. Dakota has one, too.  Mom and Dad stuff them with peanut butter or treats when they leave for work. That keeps me preoccupied for a little while!

I has a ruff life on Cape Cod - see!

I am a funny little boy with a big personality.  One time I did not feel like sleeping in my bed, so I curled up on top of Dad’s clothes in his overnight bag. I also slipped my paws into his shoes and fell asleep. I like lying on Mom’s pocketbook, too. In the morning, I wag my tail incessantly until my parents carry me onto the bed and give me belly rubs. Today, my Dad even gave me a taste of salmon right from the grill! Needless to say, I am in heaven.

Well, I think I will go take a snooze in the mini tent that Mama bought us – my sister and I like to lounge around in there.

Until next time…

 Barks & Kisses,

 Bobby J.F. Finnegan                                                     With Kev
