Sometimes, we get put in a place to help dogs in a profound way. From time to time, it’s saving a dog that is minutes away from euthanasia. More often, it’s bringing in a shelter dog, helping them get back on their feet and finding them a new, loving, home. This one is a first for us! Furever Dachshund Rescue (FDR) was given an opportunity to save five orphaned Dachshund puppies, just five days old.
These five precious Dachshund puppies were born on July 22nd but during birth, their mom went to the Rainbow Bridge. They were taken to an emergency facility in Columbia, SC and a wonderful vet tech named Hannah agreed to find them a rescue. She reached out to one of our founding members, Amber King. Amber immediately knew that FDR could help, so she contacted DeeAnn Jones, our Intake Coordinator. FDR went to work on the options to save these precious pups. The best option would be for these puppies to latch on to a mommy that had the milk to provide them with what they needed. FDR had just the dog! Molly, a beagle, and her puppies that were recently rescued by FDR from a high kill shelter in North Carolina are being fostered in Rhode Island. Molly would be the perfect mommy to adopt these babies. How would we get these five day old puppies from Columbia, SC to Rhode Island? The answer was provided by the FDR Board Chair, Laura Coulombe. She would fly to Charlotte, NC and pick up the puppies and drive the 15 hours back to her home to Molly so the puppies would have a chance to survive!
Within 24 hours, we went from emergency call to getting the now 6 day old puppies headed to Rhode Island. They are now there with surrogate mom Molly and FDR is eagerly waiting to see what will happen. View slideshow below of puppies.
It’s because of wonderful people like you, that we can say YES to emergency cases when other rescues have to say NO! Your enthusiasm for the dachshund breed and our rescue efforts is invaluable to us.
FDR is hoping you can help these puppies by signing up to be a monthly donor. Monthly donations will help these little puppies with their vetting and health care as they grow stronger. You can sign up to donate $5, $10, $20, $40 or more a month. Your donation is tax deductible and will help so many furbabies, especially these precious puppies.
Here’s a quick reminder of how to donate:
PayPal- To become a sustaining donor via PayPal, click here to visit our website donation page and select a dollar amount for your recurring gift.
